Have you ever met a person who you knew immediately was a kindred spirit? For me, that person was Joe Ruggiero. I met him on my first visit to High Point market back in 2013. In fact, Joe was the first person I met at market. He was at the Miles Talbott showroom (now The MT Company) meeting and greeting buyers and showing his upholstered furniture and collection of Sunbrella fabrics.

If I remember correctly, the tag line for his collection that year was (something like) ‘Every room should be a living room.’ I was like, YESSSS! He gets me.

“I have always believed furniture was to be enjoyed by kids and pets and that is the way we live in our environments,” says Joe. YES.

Somehow, all of my photos from market that year have gone missing, but I do have a photo with Joe from 2014, when I was quite pregnant with Eamon!

When Joe isn’t busy in his beautiful garden, curating an uber-inspirational Instagram feed, or entertaining his grandchildren, he is designing a wide array of products for the home, including upholstery and textiles, case goods, artwork, bedding, lighting, and, coming soon, tile.

And despite his obviously full plate, he is always available, generous, helpful, and friendly to his colleagues and customers – even me, when I was a brand-new designer. I have always appreciated that!

[OK, I’ve promised to make these #FFFFind posts quick, and I’ve already gone off on a tangent!]

This week’s find is one of Joe’s ingenious and purpose-driven furniture designs that is part of the Joe Ruggiero Collection.

Chaplin Console Table

The Chaplin Console Table looks simple enough – with its clean lines and beautiful mixed materials. But there is a lot of secret sauce at work here. Let me tell you what makes this worth of #FFFFind-dom…

SCALE. The dimensions are 54”W x 32”H x 8”D. Eight inches deep! This small but mighty table will fit anywhere – even in our tiny little New England rooms – behind a sofa (perfect height), in a tight foyer, in a hallway, anchoring a wall-mounted TV, etc.

Joe explained to me why he conceived of the Chaplin Console Table: “I am constantly being asked for small space ideas. My wife and I have scaled way back and are dealing with small spaces…we love it; so much more efficient.”

STYLE. This is a modern piece that can be incorporated into a room with virtually any design style. You can give it a more traditional look or a more minimal appearance depending upon the finishes you choose (see below), and how you style it, of course.

HEFT. The Chaplin Console Table may be narrow, but it is not flimsy. It weighs in at an impressive 87 pounds! The steel base and solid maple top make for a very stable and, therefore, safe piece. And it’s difficult to bump into anyway, being so fit and trim.

OPTIONS. OK, for a product that can be purchased on Wayfair, I was seriously blown away by the sheer number of finish choices for both the top and the base – 15 for the maple top, and 9 for the metal bottom.

Just a few of the finishes available for customizing the Chaplin Console Table

I have just a small sampling of finishes, and can verify that the quality is excellent.

MADE IN THE USA. I have been making a concerted effort to source domestically-produced furnishings for our projects. So many casegoods manufacturers have moved production overseas (mainly to Asia); it’s great to have a go-to piece like this that is made here – specifically, in North Carolina.

Special thanks to Joe for, as always, being available, chatting with me online about the Chaplin Console Table, his designs and his process in general, and for helping me get my hands on finish samples this week!
