What is better than making your home look and feel fantastic with minimal effort? At this moment in time, I would say almost nothing 😊.

There is a breed of wallpapers I love that does just that, and performs double duty on your walls. They not only cover your wall with pattern and color, they also adorn them with art. Well, kind of!

There are abstracted, sketchy, and trompe l’oeil versions of art gallery wallpaper. They all serve the same purpose – to absolutely cover your walls from floor to ceiling with ‘art.’Β

So why do I love this idea so much? Well, it can make decorating a space a breeze. Simply by bedecking a room (or a wall…but probably not a ceiling πŸ™‚ !) in one of these wallpapers, you’ll add instant interest, variety, dimension and…art! No need to agonize over what to hang on the walls. Not to mention – wallpaper art galleries are totally unbreakable.

Gallery Wallpaper – Andrew Martin for Kravet

This is a great solution for a variety of room types – in particular, foyers and entryways, home offices, powder rooms, closets, libraries, and sitting rooms. Anywhere that has a fair amount of continuous wall space (not too ‘chopped up’ by windows and doors), you want to feel special, and you don’t want to spend a lot of time or money hanging art in.

A cool ‘hack’ would be to use art gallery wallpaper on a wall where hanging artwork might be difficult or impossible, such as a curved wall or a sloped or slanted wall. And if you were feeling brave and cheeky yes, you could indeed hang art gallery wallpaper on a ceiling! πŸ™‚

Bunny Wall Small Wallpaper – Hunt Slonem for Groundworks

(The bunnies are a favorite – they come in several different ground colors, and a couple of different scales for the frames.)

Shopping for art gallery wallpaper is a lot like finding art that speaks to you. The way it makes you feel, the mood it evokes…it’s a bit different than sourcing regular repeating-pattern wallpaper!

Van Doe Wallpaper – Sheila Bridges Design

Art gallery wallpaper can make you think, or even make you laugh. Sheila Bridges’ ‘Van Doe Wallpaper’ features ornately framed iconic artworks (e.g. by daVinci, Grandma Moses, Warhol, Grant Wood, etc.) with deer heads superimposed on them. What could be more delightful, dramatic or chic?

Sibylla Teal Gallery Wallpaper – Brewster Wallcoverings

Or, maybe the soft farmhouse look is more your speed. I love the mix of botanicals and butterflies, eclectically and rustically framed!

Limonium Wallpaper – Vervain

You can get a bit of a different look with the antique botanical theme, as well – there are a few styles I’ve seen, including this charmer from Vervain, that have the look of bookplates pasted and collaged onto a wall, rather than framed and spaced out. It also has a coordinating fabric, so you could really envelop a room in this pattern by using it for draperies in conjunction with the wallpaper!

Vintage Art Wallpaper – Graduate Hotels for Chasing Paper

Although the mere concept of art gallery wallpaper is already whimsical in and of itself, there are some styles that really bring a little extra fun and charm! I absolutely love these sketchy frames…and I couldn’t pick just one, so I’m showing both colorways.
