Just as we are entering the home stretch for our second home in the Berkshires, and ‘pretty things’ are starting to take shape, I thought I would share an update on what’s happening. There is a big push to get to the finish line by mid-November, which would have us potentially celebrating Thanksgiving there…which is a nice goal to think about. It’s a goal that also gives me massive heartburn, and a wee bit of PTSD thinking back to our home renovation a few years ago that had a hard Christmas deadline…which of course I swore I’d never do again…ha).Read More
In eight years of blogging, I believe this is the first time I have addressed shower curtains! If you have a shower curtain (or two or three) in your home, what are the first words that come to mind when you think about it? Annoying? Awkward? Gross? Wasteful, with the frequent liner changes needed to keep things clean?
I was excited to happen upon a shower curtain that solves for these pain points, and looks great doing it!Read More
I have taken a couple of prolonged ‘pauses’ in blogging, during which we completed and photographed some pretty great projects. This is one of them. At first, my thought was – the ship has sailed, the pictures have been shared on Instagram and on my website, even published, so why dig up old news? Then I thought…I never really took the opportunity to share the whole story of this renovation project for a great family – it is good to do for posterity’s sake if nothing else. And, it’s actually a pretty neat story. Especially if you are into the architectural history, or a lover of color, or both.
So, without further ado, I present the reveal of a past project…which was beautifully photographed by Michael Lee well over a year ago.Read More
It is indeed possible to design beautiful spaces with young children in mind that are exceptionally functional, do not look like a preschool restroom, and can go the distance to serve the family well beyond the little-kid years. I’m going to break it down for you with 10 great design ideas for making a bathroom kid-friendly (note that I did not say kid-PROOF…because that’s only part of it…). And…5 mistakes you’ll want to steer clear of!Read More
It has been awhile since a plumbing fixture or fitting earned #FFFFind status. I recently learned about the coolest innovation in lavatory (sink) and tub drains, and wanted to share it with you. What’s that you say…a “cool” drain? [Note: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links, which means if you click…Read More
This is the very first article in what I hope will be an informative and enjoyable series of posts, which will be published about once a month. With each article, I’ll explore ‘How to Design With” a specific type of material, finish, furnishing, or accessory for your home. I’ll be sure to include my thoughts…Read More
As far as countertop materials go, I think it is safe to say that granite has fallen out of favor. Quartz, quartzite and marble are generally more coveted by homeowners and home buyers. Of course, I am overgeneralizing (with the alternatives, as well). And therein lies the issue with granite. When you see or hear…Read More
It’s no secret that engineered stone countertops (aka quartz) are getting really good at mimicking natural stone – dramatically-veined white marbles, in particular. They are great imitators. And recently, new finishes have become available that further enhance the illusion. You can now find an increasing variety of quartz with a honed or satin finish. But…Read More
As you know, I am always on the lookout for innovative products – new and exciting, or just flying under the radar – and I try as much as possible to ‘battle test’ things I’m not quite sure about on myself (and my two-boy destruction crew…they roll deep). I created Friday Family-Friendly Finds to share…Read More
Since I missed Friday Family-Friendly Find last week (did you notice? I did 🙁 ), I wanted to share an extra-special update today to make up for it. Things are really heating up here with our renovation project, and I’m really excited to say that we’re inching ever-closer to weather-tight. All windows and exterior doors…Read More
